Juan Lluna was born into an artistic family in the eastern region of Valencia, Spain. He was encouraged to take painting seriously from the age of six. He first received instruction from his father and when he was old enough he enrolled at the Valencia School of Art. There he was awarded many prizes for his work and high achievement. He went on to win the Gold Medal in Seville in 1974. Further honors and distinctions followed when he began to exhibit in Madrid and Valencia.

Today he is one of Spain’s leading artists, noted for his fine and individual plein-air technique. Lluna is a direct painter when it comes to capturing environments and a specialist when the thoughts summon the poet. He has truly demonstrated his professionalism and his noble dedication throughout his career. Lluna has the ability to separate himself from the usual “Custumbrista” Impressionism, which is the constant repetition of themes and picturesque elements. And, he realizes a chronic space that narrates geography and experiences. When asked to comment on his current work, Lluna remarks, “I have been deeply influenced by my predecessors from the well regarded school of Pinazo which concentrates on capturing the deepness in profound spaces that make up a successful atmosphere. Atmosphere without contamination, clean, like full spaces, with that something or much of which involves and conditions us.”

In his landscapes, the flowing brush strokes facilitate the transparencies that give feeling to the spaces. They are paintings that are constructed well from their very own foundations, a graphic design with descriptive sketches that give order to the compositions and join the different planes so that it can be plentiful land for a fertile recreation. Juan Lluna is a Neoimpressionist that captures the light of each instance from which comes the colors that maintain the truthfulness of the real thing, or of an intuitive vision that crystallizes itself in nature or human realities.

The Diputacio Provincial Museum in Barcelona, Spain has examples of his work, as well as other substantial collections throughout Europe and the USA.
